Data Skills Group Mentorship

Turn data into decisions - not just dashboards

Collecting data is easy. Knowing what to do with it is the skill.

Our mentorship is designed for practitioners who want to move beyond dashboards and master the code-based tools you thought were beyond your limits.

Go from novice to expert with solutions like R, Rstudio, and Shiny. This programme focuses on thinking with data, as well as visualising it.

Our 6 months S&C Principles program helps you:

  • Streamline data structure and workflows

  • Optimise insights rather than reporting everything.

  • Utilise code based solutions to inform real decisions in performance environments.

How the programme works

  • TUTORIALS

    Each month we release a mentoring tutorial to guide you through new skills. These get released at the beginning of each month.

  • LIVE SESSIONS

    Each month, you meet your Data Skills mentor to reflect on problems you’ve faced during previous tutorials and bring your data sets to life.

  • SPORT RELATED DATA

    We use your data, or examples from the world of sport. If you don’t have your own data sets, you can use ours! Each tutorial uses sport specific data to help you relate to the numbers and visualisations.

  • INTERACTIVE SHARING

    Each month we use our community platform to encourage you to share the progress you are making. To see how other practitioners visualise similar data helps broadens your perspective and learning.

  • ASK ANY QUESTION, ANY TIME

    Ask any question 24-7. With a supportive group of fellow mentees around you, peer to peer support means you get answers quicker, and see different ways to approach the same problem.

  • DIRECT MENTOR ACCESS

    As well as utilising the community to solve a problem, if you have a private question or uncertainty, you can direct message your mentor.

  • BIGGER NETWORK

    As well as being part of a cohort, you will be part of a wider mentorship community, meaning you can ask for advice on anything high performance related at any time, not just data skills support.

Shaun McLaren - Newcastle Redbulls

Shaun has worked with England and GB Rugby League and Newcastle Red Bulls RFC as an S&C coach and sports scientist, as well as consulting to many organisations across the world. He specialises in making sense of athlete data to optimise training programmes, with a particular focus on visualisation and analysis.
